  • By definition, “a service is a means of delivering value to customers by facilitating outcomes customers want to achieve without the ownership of specific costs and risks.” is the most compelling and is the reason that one might look at processes as a means to an end and not the end itself.
 Examples: Goods are items you buy, such as food, clothing, toys, furniture, and toothpaste. Services are actions such as haircuts, medical check-ups, mail delivery, car repair, and teaching.

23 TYPES OF SERVICES

Services are offering that are primarily based on intangible elements. The global economy is experiencing a long term shift to services from products whereby services are an increasingly large part of GDP. It is common for things that were previously products to be replaced with services over time. The following are common types of services.

EDUCATION

Education based services such as consulting.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Management, support and operations of information technology as opposed to selling a technology product that the costumer needs to install, configure, operate and maintain.

DESIGN

Services to create designs such as graphic design.

PERFORMING ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT

Services that have artistic or entertainment value such ass a musical performance.

CREATIVE SERVICES

Services that require artistic talent such as writing or commissioned art.

GOVERNMENT SERVICES

Services provided by a government. Governments serve an important function as they have no profit motive. In theory, they are motivated to improve quality of life for a nation, region or city.
Example- post office, police, water, electricity. 

NON - PROFIT SERVICES

Services offered by n organization driven by vision as opposed to a profit motive. Example, banks, hotel, airlines, travel agencies, insurance, legal, medical and consultancy.

Teaching or knowledge about people things.


CONSTRUCTION, MAINTENANCE & CLEANING

Building, customizing, repairing and cleaning things as a services.


PROFESSIONAL SERVICES

The services of individuals with professional qualifications such as an accountant or lawayer.


FINANCIAL SERVICES

Services related to assets such as banks, investment funds and tax preparation.


AGENTS & BROKERS

Individuals who offer representation in a transaction such as a real estate agent.


HEALTH CARE

Doctor, nurses, dentists and health related services.

Services such as hair salons and spas.
